High School Senior Project

We have received several requests from seniors interested in completing their senior project by being part of the rebuild of Fort Natomas. We appreciate your service and willingness to be part of such a special community project.

Before we begin on the build, we would like to know what Fort Natomas means to you (used to play there, went to a birthday party, took little sister/brother, worked on last build, haven’t played on it but will after I help build it, etc.). Please share what you hope to get out of the experience by volunteering your time and working on the rebuild of the playground. Please submit a one page essay on what Fort Natomas means to you.

So that you obtain the fullest experience of rebuilding Fort Natomas and see what is involved in making this rebuild a reality, you will complete service hours in several areas. You will need to assist the RFN Core team in a variety of tasks as outlined below. If for some reason you are unable to work on an item listed below, please explain in writing and provide an alternative to what you are able to do.

20 hours of service to rebuild of Fort Natomas
5 hours of service in volunteer recruitment. Goal is to recruit at least ten adult volunteers. To be completed during the month of October. Completed hours must be signed off by Randi Kay Stephens
5 hours of service for RFN phone calls, data entry and technical support with the core team. To be completed during the month of October. Completed hours must be signed off by Randi Kay Stephens.
8 hours of service on the build (in child care, food, tool shed* and building) *Tool Shed service may be completed during drop-off and pick-up days. To be completed during November 4th through 9th during the build (rain or shine). The Core member in your rotation area must sign off completed hours.
2 hours of service on the Monday following the build doing clean up with the committee. To be completed the Monday (11/10) following the build (rain or shine). Completed hours must be signed off by Randi Kay Stephens

Student agrees that they will commit at least twenty (20) hours of service to the rebuilding of Fort Natomas by recruiting volunteers, helping with the administrative portion of arranging for the build, and complete a rotation in each of the service areas during the build, and will also be available to help with clean-up. Student must also submit the one page essay on what Fort Natomas means to them. Include contact information for student, parent/guardian, and teacher when submitting essay. City of Sacramento waiver must also be signed by parent/guardian. We will then sign off on your blue sheet or senior project form.

Service hours will not be signed off by the RFN team until hours of service in each area have been completed. You must keep track of when, where and how you complete each portion of your service.
